Civil War Pensions

The Dependent Pension Act of 1890 expanded the military pension program to include those who served in the Civil War.  Pensions were initially available only for disabled veterans, but were later expanded to include the widow, children, or parents of a deceased veteran. The Civil War Pension cards were used to track paperwork submitted by veterans, or their benefactors, applying for government pensions.  Pension records would generally consist of an entire file, which would contain applications, proof of identity, proof of marriage, etc.  On each card, you may find; the veteran's name, the widow or child applying, the unit of service, and administrative filing data.  To view individual cards, click on any of the names listed below.
